How This ₹50 Crore Farm Came to Life and What It Means for Your Investment

Building a ₹50 crore farm from the ground up isn’t your everyday story. Starting with a small inherited plot, this couple turned farmland into a thriving lifestyle and investment, all while balancing their digital marketing business. What does it take to make farmland a smart investment? They have some clear answers.

From City Stress to Country Bliss

The journey began in Bangalore, where relentless work, sleep deprivation, and anxiety took a toll. Seeking escape from the urban grind, this couple envisioned a life rooted in nature. They wanted more than just a retreat—they wanted to create a space that could also become a viable hospitality business, generating a steady monthly income of ₹5 to 10 lakh.

Starting in 2017 with a modest inherited 3-acre plot, their farm has grown to nearly 30 acres today. They expanded gradually, acquiring land in chunks—a couple of acres here, half an acre there. The biggest land addition came during the pandemic, when they bought an extensive 12-acre parcel. Total land investment roughly adds up to ₹5.5 to 6 crore.

Building More Than Land: Infrastructure and Vision

Beyond land, the couple invested another ₹4 crore developing the property. They’ve built two A-frame villas, a four-bedroom guest house with a gym, and a large kitchen set up to be convertible into a restaurant. These developments raised the farm’s current valuation to about ₹30 crore, reflecting a significant increase from ₹25 crore last year—largely thanks to better land laws and skyrocketing demand for rural properties.

Maintenance costs, the couple explains, stay manageable. Compared to upkeep of a ₹4–5 crore apartment that demands ₹35,000–40,000 monthly, their farm’s labor and electricity expenses are on par or even less due to rural economy benefits. A full 30-acre spread with multiple AC units still costs them less in power than many urban homes pay.

Fear, Faith, and a Farming Future

What if it all went wrong? Building a farm was no small risk, especially starting during the uncertainty of the pandemic. The couple’s fallback was to convert the farm into an Airbnb managed by professionals, keeping options open. But today, both have committed to working from the farm for the long haul, embracing the rural lifestyle fully.

The farm’s main produce is coffee, pepper, coconuts, and exotic fruits like avocados and mangosteen. The coffee crop emerged as the bread and butter, yielding ₹40–50 lakh last year alone. Other crops like coconuts and arecanuts are still growing into their productive years.

Digital Marketing Fuels the Dream

Their primary income, paradoxically, hasn’t come from the farm but their digital marketing agency, NXG World. The group comprises Leo Digital, which manages campaigns for Fortune 500 companies and major universities, and NXG Consulting, which focuses on branding, business strategy, and digital transformation—including AI projects. This diverse portfolio supports the farm’s growth and cushions them from market shocks.

Smart Land Buying: Tips from Experience

Buying land? Their advice is simple: choose land close to your roots for emotional connection and community. Avoid buying in tiny square feet parcels or overpriced managed farms, which severely limit returns. Aim for at least an acre, preferably raw and undeveloped—this is where you add value. Typical prices should range between ₹20 to 25 lakh for empty plots, or up to ₹40 lakh for farms with existing amenities. Overpaying kills your ROI.

The Personal Finance Backdrop

The first serious investments started around 2017 with real estate and equity, coinciding with the arrival of their first child. Their portfolio is well-diversified: real estate dominates, supplemented by equity, mutual funds, and gold. Real estate investments have yielded 4 to 5 times return, especially as they entered before the pandemic-triggered surge in demand for farmland.

Cars, Cash, and Future Plans

The husband shares an amusing journey through his automotive choices—from a 2010 Ford Fiesta to a profitable sale of a BMW X1 after five years. His current ride is a three-year-old electric vehicle valued around ₹1.3 to 1.4 crore before taxes, reflecting their thoughtful approach to investments that blend lifestyle and business.

Next Decade: Growth and Sustainability

They envision taking their net worth from ₹50 crore to ₹500 crore in the next 10 years—an ambitious target fueled by optimization of existing assets, diversification into rental properties, and an acute eye on market shifts, particularly the disruptive effects of AI. Hospitality is on their radar too, with plans to generate recurring revenues while maintaining the farm’s tranquility.

What Farming Life Teaches about Worth

Through the slow rhythms of farm life, the couple discovered a different kind of wealth—not attached to flashy cars or city stress, but to time, space, and family. Sitting on their land, they don’t just feel wealthy—they feel like billionaires. Their story underscores a larger message: investing in your roots, your community, and diversified income streams can redefine what success truly means.
