GTA 6 Is Huge: 80 Hours, Massive Map, and 30 FPS on PS5

Grand Theft Auto 6 isn’t just another entry—it’s shaping up as one of Rockstar’s biggest games ever, clocking in around 80 hours with a map three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2. But there’s a catch: it looks like it’s locked at 30 frames per second on base PS5 hardware.

How Long Is Grand Theft Auto 6?

The buzz around GTA 6 went into overdrive after Rockstar’s eye-opening 26-minute gameplay reveal. But now we have something a bit more concrete about game length. Rob Nelson, Rockstar’s co-studio head, told The New York Times it took him around 80 hours to finish the main narrative and some optional story beats that actually change the plot.

That’s a hefty chunk of time, easily making it one of Rockstar’s longest campaigns to date. The idea that optional missions affect the story’s outcome hints at a new depth and replayability, something somewhat fresh for the franchise.

Just How Big Is the GTA 6 World?

The map is literally enormous. Vice City, the game’s setting, is said to be about twice the size of Los Santos from GTA 5. However, that’s just part of the picture. GTA 6’s overall world is reportedly three times bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2’s vast map.

Considering the latter felt immense—even when riding around on a horse—this puts GTA 6’s scale into perspective. We’re talking about an entire Florida-inspired region with sprawling urban and rural environments, promising plenty to explore and get lost in.

Visuals and Performance: The 30 FPS Question

Rockstar wrapped the reveal trailer with the words “Captured on PS5,” which sparked a mixed reaction online. Visuals look detailed and polished, but many were curious about what compromises were made under the hood.

Digital Foundry’s analysis suggests the game runs at a native 1440p resolution with a ‘relatively stable’ 30 frames per second, with only occasional frame drops. For a game this detailed on base PS5 hardware, that’s impressive—though not exactly what the PC and competitive gamers had hoped for.

Questions about 60 FPS modes, ray tracing, or performance settings remain unanswered. When asked, Rob Nelson didn’t give any specifics. So, for now, the 30 FPS cap seems likely, at least on standard consoles.

What Else Stands Out About GTA 6?

Beyond numbers and framerates, the gameplay itself intrigues fans. The character-switching mechanic, intense shootouts, and expansive driving sequences all look slick and engaging. The game feels like a high-budget, carefully crafted experience, suggesting Rockstar has poured serious resources into this one.

Relationship mechanics are also getting attention, with many elements reportedly optional so players can tailor their experience.

We’re still waiting to see how all this plays out in the final version, but the pieces on display hint at a versatile, rich open world full of narrative twists.

Xbox’s Disc-to-Digital Feature Is Making Waves

On a related note in gaming news, Xbox has officially announced a disc-to-digital program for Xbox One and Series X consoles with disc drives. Starting early for Xbox Insiders, players can insert a physical game disc and redeem a digital copy.

This move supports thousands of titles compatible with current gen hardware, although backward compatibility for older discs like Xbox 360 isn’t included. It’s a welcome step in bridging physical and digital ownership, though some remain cautious about its ecosystem lock-in.

Gamescom and New Releases Paint a Busy Picture

The Gamescom event brought a wealth of news beyond GTA 6. Highlights include fresh looks at titles like Tides of Annihilation and No Law, a game blending cyberpunk adventure with stealth and gunplay.

Classic franchises are also getting updates: Final Fantasy Revelation continues the FF7 trilogy, and The Witcher 3 is getting both DLC and a revamped remaster edition. Plus, if you’ve never purchased The Witcher’s DLC, CD Projekt Red is now giving Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for free.

Recent game releases include Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, and Star Wars: Zero Company, each sparking their own mix of excitement and critique.

With so much launching and evolving, the gaming world is buzzing—and GTA 6 stands front and center, promising one of the most expansive and immersive open-world experiences yet.
