GTA 6 Game Length, Map Size and Frame Rate Details Revealed

Grand Theft Auto 6 is shaping up to be one of Rockstar’s most ambitious games yet. With a gameplay reveal and fresh details, the campaign could run 80 hours, the world map dwarfs GTA 5’s by twice, and the game targets 1440p at 30 frames per second on PS5. Here’s what you need to know.

Just How Big Is GTA 6?

Rockstar’s latest is not holding back on scope. Co-studio head Rob Nelson confirmed in a New York Times interview that it took him 80 hours to complete the game. This includes the main story plus optional missions that have narrative impacts. While the exact breakdown isn’t clear, this hints at one of the longest Rockstar campaigns to date, surpassing even Red Dead Redemption 2’s marathon story.

And if that wasn’t enough, the game’s vastness has also been teased. The Vice City portion—basically a reimagined Miami—is said to be twice the size of Los Santos from GTA 5. But the entire map goes beyond that, reportedly clocking in at three times the size of the Red Dead Redemption 2 world. Considering how expansive Red Dead felt on horseback, covering this world with vehicles could feel truly sprawling.

What About Gameplay and Replayability?

Interestingly, there’s chatter about the campaign offering replay value. The idea that optional missions affect the storyline could entice players to run through it multiple times to see different outcomes. This is relatively fresh territory for GTA, which traditionally focused on one linear story path. The 26-minute reveal showed enjoyable third-person shooting, character swapping, and dynamic story twists, promising both depth and fun.

Rob Nelson and team remained tight-lipped on performance specifics, though. Questions about 60 FPS modes or ray tracing support remain unanswered. Digital Foundry’s analysis suggests the game runs at a native 1440p resolution with a stable 30 frames per second on the PS5 base model, with only occasional frame drops. This is solid, if not leading-edge, but could be the key to sustaining the rich visuals and enormous world.

Disc to Digital and Other Gaming Highlights

Switching gears, Xbox announced an intriguing disc-to-digital program that lets users redeem digital copies for physical discs they already own, rolling out soon to Xbox One and Series X consoles. It’s a strategic move to bridge physical and digital ownership, though limited to discs designed with digital identifiers.

Meanwhile, Gamescom delivered a flurry of new content and game previews. Standouts include new gameplay for Tides of Annihilation, the cyberpunk-inspired No Law, and expansions for The Witcher 3, which will soon receive a remastered edition and free major DLC for owners. New releases like Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2 and Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 also hit the scene, along with early impressions of Star Wars: Zero Company and the early access Amsterdam 1666.

What’s Next for GTA Fans?

The buzz around Grand Theft Auto 6 is intense, and Rockstar seems confident that their massive world and deep campaign will deliver. The 30 FPS frame rate might divide hardcore gamers used to buttery smooth 60 FPS or beyond, but the sheer scale and visual detail aim to impress on current-gen consoles.

Whether GTA 6 lives up to the hype in gameplay experience and replay value will become clear only after release. For now, the insight into game length, map size, and technical performance offers a tantalizing glimpse into what some expect to be this generation’s landmark open-world game.
